Police Officers

Safety and securing is a year-round, 24-hour operation at Iowa State University. Officers work holidays that fall within their regular work schedule, home football games, and other major events on campus. They also report for duty to manage major natural disasters and other emergency situations.

Police officer are permanent, full-time positions that work 40 hours a week on a rotating schedule. Shift assignments are determined after completion of the training program that rotates through all shifts. Days off also are on a rotating schedule.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens with a valid driver's license. Qualified noncertified and out-of-state applicants will be invited to take a written test and physical test.

  • Public Safety Officers

    Under general supervision, patrols assigned area on foot to ensure protection of students, faculty, staff and visitors, as well as property and equipment. Controls and monitors access in and out of university buildings and monitors burglar and fire alarm systems as required. Provide safety and security for the Emergency Department (ED) and immediate area surrounding the ED at Mary Greeley Medical Center (MGMC). This position will be on a rotating work schedule, which may include overnights and weekends.

  • Public Safety Dispatchers

    The Department of Public Safety at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for a Public Safety Dispatcher I. Under general supervision, this position provides communications of a public safety nature for university police and other departments as well as surrounding law enforcement agencies and emergency response agencies utilizing multi-frequency radio, computer systems, telephone, TDD (telecommunications device for the deaf), and personal contact. In addition, this position is responsible for monitoring university emergency phones and multiple alarm systems.
